Aquatics

  1. Red Cross Lifeguard Class

    April 27, 2018 - April 29, 2018 @ North Lake Natatorium

    Want to learn skills that will help you save lives? Become a certified lifeguard.

    Prerequisite: Minimum age 15. Successful skills test, which includes 300-yard continuous swim; a 10-pound brick retrieval from 7 to 10 feet depth of water followed by a 20-yard return carrying the brick; and treading water for two minutes without using hands. Test must be completed one week before class or must have instructor approval.

    Successful completion of the course will result in American Red Cross Life Guard/First Aid, CPR-Professional Rescuer, and AED certifications.

  2. City of Irving Summer Sharks Tryouts

    April 30, 2018, 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ North Lake Natatorium

    Irving Sharks is a fun and challenging swim team program offered by the City of Irving Aquatics Division. Sharks swimmers have the opportunity to compete in Texas Amateur Athletic Federation League swim meets.

    Team members learn competitive swimming starts, turns and finishes. Skills and drills are part of each practice session, and swimmers work to refine the four racing strokes: freestyle, breast stroke, butterfly and backstroke.

    Swimmers 7 years and older are invited to join Irving Sharks. Participants must be able to swim 50 yards without stopping and be prepared to learn in a group coaching environment. Practices will be held June 4 to July 23 at North Lake Natatorium, Cimarron Aquatic Center and Lee Park pool.

  3. Exhibition Gallery Talk: Grant Wood and the American Heartland

    Lyle Novinski leads an Exhibition Gallery Talk on Grant Wood's current exhibition at the Arts Center.

    Organized and presented by the Irving Arts Center in conjunction with Celebrating Irving 2018, this exhibition features prints and works on paper by American painter, Grant Wood and his fellow Regionalists, including Thomas Hart Benton, John Bloom and John Steuart Curry. The exhibition features the 19 lithographs Wood created during the Great Depression that were printed and distributed by Associated American Artists, as well as two scale drawings of soldiers portrayed in the 24’ x 20’ stained glass Memorial Window he designed for the Veterans Memorial Building in Cedar Rapids, Iowa (1928-29).

    What happens when a mouse discovers a motorcycle just his size, and it's bright and shiny, red and fast? Find out by reading this year's One District, One Book selection, The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Newbery Award-winning author Beverly Cleary. Today, we'll watch a movie based on the book.

    Calling all Teens: Need a Job? Young job-seekers can interview with local organizations for summer and long-term employment. Companies from all over the DFW Metroplex will be accepting applications, interviewing and hiring on the spot. The center also will host two free resume-building and interviewing workshops from 4:30 to 8 p.m. April 23 and 25 at Lively Pointe. Job Fair attendees are asked to bring plenty of resumes to the event, wear professional dress and bring a school ID to enter.
